It sometimes takes a long time for some LotFP books to get done. no, really!
For example, one of the books being prepared for the present release cycle was commissioned the same time as Blood in the Chocolate, and had the text submitted right around the same time BitC’s did. Blood in the Chocolate came out in December 2016.
So we have a number of projects that are out in the ether waiting on other parts to get done. Sometimes we have writing waiting on an artist, or the writer has been promising to get stuff in and we’ve got art laying around, etc.
Tight ship we run around here.
Anyway, one artist contacts me today and asks that I not use some as-yet unpublished art that he’d done for me some years ago. At a time of “too much cash laying around” — such days used to exist — I had commissioned some Next Edition LotFP art from this person. They said they don’t feel comfortable with some (not all) of it and wishes it to not be used.
Not a big thing, really, except that around the time I was commissioning things he was doing art for death metal bands so it’s just a bit curious.
And then I found out about the Sandy Petersen Thing.
He’s apparently done Three Bad Things:
He apparently didn’t like this article from The Atlantic.
He has an opinion on trans people in sports. I myself think that subject is more complicated than “one opinion good and proper, all others bad and harmful,” and don’t think much of any effort to reduce it down to that.
He had a Twitter exchange with Varg Vikernes (not endorsing any of Varg’s views or crimes) and follows Varg’s RPG Twitter account (a classic social media FollowCrime!). He apparently also follows Dennis Prager (zzz…), Ben Shapiro (zzz…), Ted Cruz (*shrug*), and The Babylon Bee (which is genuinely hilarious sometimes and I heartily recommend them alongside The Onion). Enterprising internet sleuths believe this indicates that this 65 year old man might have… dare I say it… conservative thoughts. The horror. Why won’t these old fucks report to Carousel for renewal? Why do they run?
You can see the evidence of these heinous crimes here.
And about that Atlantic article… it’s pure BADD/PMRC bullshit, and frankly the subheadline is a not-even-disguised threat. If I knew about this article over the weekend, I would have used it as a quote source in the Psychopathy post instead of the Salon article.
And this quote:
As the board-game hobby has ballooned in size over a relatively short amount of time, it has seen a shock of diversity to its player base. Maybe it is simply enduring growing pains similar to those of so many other pop mediums—the video-game sector in particular—as they exit their relative nooks and crannies to introduce themselves to the vast divergence of human experience.
Funny how things that talk about diversity and opening things up to new demographics don’t simply celebrate all the new faces, the new voices, the new perspectives, and all the additional things they bring to the table for everyone.
No, they have a habit of citing the origins of these now-popular things as something shameful and best left behind. To be gotten rid of. Replaced.
All those nooks and crannies need to be filled in. All the rough edges smoothed over.
Because how dare you pretend and play in ways that other people don’t like.
How dare those things from the dark ages even still rank?
Something must be done.
Do you disagree? Do you still enjoy those things from the nook and cranny days?
Then maybe you too will need to be smoothed over. Can’t be helped. Progress.
