NOTE ONE
Got this review recently for Eldritch Cock on DriveThruRPG:
Nevermind that I don’t agree with the “porn” description for the book, and nevermind that a magic item that’s literally a penis seems very topic-relevant for a book called Eldritch Cock…
These sort of complaints are fun. There’s something just wholesome about people getting freaked out about what they read that seems like I’m doing exactly what I should be doing.
What I can’t quite figure out is why causing certain types of offence please me, and some really bother me. In my business, it really should be all the same. Especially since I’m surely going to continue to do pretty much all the things that bring all different kinds of criticism.
Someday I’m going to find out I have a brain tumor or something, and after it’s removed I’ll suddenly be releasing books somewhere between Mister Rogers and Bob Ross in tone, I’m sure. And then I’ll find out that my tumor escaped the hospital before incineration, fled to Mexico, and took over one of the cartels down there.
“Stay away from me.” hah!
NOTE TWO
I’m using Substack for these posts instead of the old LotFP blog for three reasons.
The reason I dropped off usage of the old blog in the first place and moved over to the Google+ platform (and had a much bigger audience there) was the interface had gone wonky. Sometimes I can’t get past the content warning screen for some reason, and the comments section became completely unusable for technical reasons I never bothered to try to figure out. I do believe I had already turned off the comments on the blog, directing people to a G+ thread for comments on any particular post. Everything works smoothly on this platform so far.
While some of the posts on the old blog were not all that far away from the sorts of posts I am doing here, that blog was mainly used for both promotion (as I still use it for now and again, when I have something to promote and the interface gods are merciful) and commentary on the goings-on of the OSR and greater RPG scenes. I don’t keep up on that stuff anymore and dumping all this stuff in that old space seems not the best continuation of what that blog was.
On the off chance that instead of winning the lottery, this thing gets noticed (I haven’t posted about its existence anywhere yet, the only subscribers are people I’ve personally given the link to) and I become a Popular Commentator About These Sorts of Things, there is a monetizing option here. Somehow I don’t think that’s going to be an issue, but hey, lots of other things in my career that absolutely couldn’t possibly have ever happened, have happened, so who knows.
