I agree that these individuals shouldn't be condemned. However, Zak, Adam, and Luke seem to be hosted by their own petards. I'm pretty sure all three have advocated for "gatekeeping the community" in the past to some extent I'd really like to hear whether they have different perspectives now. Do they think their own excommunications are different from others they might have cheered for in the past?

I am not interested in retribution or who did what or whether turnabout is fair play.

This whole excommunication thing is bullshit no matter who does it, or when. If we cheer when it happens to certain people, then we're not saying the practice is wrong, we're just in a struggle to determine who should have that power.

And no one should have that power.

And I was so angry when I did this post this morning, I missed a very important angle...

Not telling everyone involved in a bigger project who all else is also involved is a very common, maybe the standard industry practice. And Crane has had his life knocked on its ass for basically following that practice. I don't give a shit if he was an asshole to other people previously, that's fucked up.

Their individual viewpoints have not changed.

To be clear, I'm not interested in retribution or demonization either. Cancel culture is wrong no matter who perpetuates it. I am curious about whether how those individuals viewpoints have changed. Hopefully someone will blog about it one day.
